The community is mourning the sudden passing of Joe Langiu, a beloved guitarist, Marine Corps veteran, and longtime supporter of local artists. Langiu, 44, died unexpectedly on Oct. 23, leaving behind his wife and two young daughters.
Known for his generosity and unwavering encouragement of other musicians, Langiu was a fixture in the region’s rock scene. He played with several bands over the years and was especially recognized for pitching in behind the scenes—helping with sound engineering, designing flyers, or cheering on fellow performers.
“Joe was always a positive presence as a bandmate and friend, and his warmth and kindness to everybody he met will always be remembered,” said Ben Williamson, bass player for Unsung.
Before his music career, Langiu served 12 years in the United States Marine Corps, with duty assignments that included Iraq and the Pentagon. He later built a successful career in information technology in the Fredericksburg and Quantico area.
As friends, musicians, and community members look for ways to support the family, Langiu’s band, Unsung, has organized a benefit concert to help his wife and daughters. The event will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Strangeways Brewing in Fredericksburg. All proceeds—including raffles, merchandise sales, and donations—will go directly to the family.

Unsung will perform alongside special guest guitarist Zack Guy of the band Unchained, as well as some of Langiu’s former bandmates. Strangeways Brewing is located at 350 Lansdowne Road.

Hi! I’m Jennifer Bailey and I partner with entrepreneurs who have massive ideas that could change the world. Most marketing is meaningless. Filled with empty promises, its only job is to bring in new traffic, new leads, and new customers. But I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and I’ve learned that marketing can do so much more than reach business goals and build profit. My methods give businesses the fire and soul they need to reach the right people, set the groundwork for sustainable relationships, and offer true value to the people on both the giving and receiving ends of marketing.
