For the first time, Lake Anna is home to a dedicated mental health practice designed to serve the unique rhythms, pressures, and possibilities for people at the lake. Led by licensed mental health counselor and marriage and family therapist Stacey Crosson, CSpace Counseling officially opens its doors with a mission rooted in connection, calm, and community.

At the heart of the practice is the concept of CSpace itself. In therapy, this is often referred to as the window of tolerance.

“It’s that place within us where we feel calm. We’re connected to ourselves, we’re connected to other people, we’re connected to creation. We’re compassionate and we have care and concern for others. All these beautiful C words,” Crosson said. “I just started calling it my CSpace.”

Racing thoughts, emotional shutdown, hypervigilance, and reactivity can disconnect individuals from both themselves and those around them. CSpace Counseling is designed to help clients return to that grounded state, where healing and growth can occur.

Crosson’s approach to therapy is deeply informed by her own story. Raised in a rural Minnesota farming community as the youngest of seven children, she grew up immersed in complex family systems, shared responsibility, and a deep connection to the outdoors.

“I always tell my clients that I work with systems because I grew up in one,” she said. “Being part of a large family shaped how I understand relationships, resilience, and interdependence.”

Her professional journey spans more than 30 years and includes extensive work as a trauma informed therapist, clinical director, and educator. She and her husband, Jeff Crosson, co owner and business director, spent 13 years living and practicing in Germany, where Stacey also maintained a private counseling practice. The couple later returned to the United States, serving communities in Northern Virginia, Fredericksburg, and beyond through Safe Harbor Behavioral Care and Safe Harbor Christian Counseling.

The Crossons first discovered Lake Anna nearly eight years ago and immediately felt drawn to its rural character and sense of peace.

In 2020, they purchased land and spent summers living in a camper while building their home. Eventually, they relocated permanently. “We’re incredibly excited to finally establish roots at Lake Anna,” she said.

CSpace Counseling is located off Route 208 in the building with Lake Anna Integrative Care and is currently booking patient appointments. Joining the Lake Anna location is Julie Compher, a counseling resident who also works with Crosson at Safe Harbor in Fredericksburg and lives at Lake Anna.
Crosson is actively seeking partnerships with local schools, churches, and community organizations. Crosson is available to lead workshops, seminars, and presentations on stress management, mental health education, and resilience.

CSpace Counseling accepts most major insurance plans. For those using out-of-network benefits, the practice offers superbills for reimbursement and reduced out-of-pocket rates.

“It’s really hard to find good mental health care,” she said. “My husband and I believe this is our calling. I can genuinely say I love what I do every day. Being able to be a change agent in people’s lives and helping them live their most vibrant life.”
