Lake Anna Weather, which began as a small Facebook group in December 2021, has officially been designated a Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador by the National Weather Service (NWS).
The WRN Ambassador program encourages counties, towns, organizations, universities, and businesses across the U.S. to become more weather-aware and resilient in order to protect citizens, members, and employees from dangerous weather. Tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, floods, hurricanes, heat waves, cold snaps, and snowstorms impact communities across the nation every year—and the program helps ensure people are prepared.
Since its creation, Lake Anna Weather has promoted safety, education, and real-time weather updates through its Facebook group. This information has helped residents and visitors make smart decisions when threatening weather approaches. During the endless days of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall this past June and July, timely updates allowed many people to get off the lake before storms arrived. Others used the forecasts to adjust afternoon activities or reschedule plans entirely.
The impact has extended beyond recreation. Local businesses like Cruise Rusty and Luxury Lawns of Lake Anna rely on the group’s updates to better serve customers. Fire departments have also used Lake Anna Weather during spring’s “No Open Air Burn” season and during fire events, showing its value as both a public safety and business resource.
Behind the effort is Michael Eckert, founder of Lake Anna Weather. His dedication was recently recognized in the Best of Lake Anna 2025 awards, where he won Gold for Best Humanitarian and Gold for Best Local Facebook Group. These honors reflect the difference his work has made in keeping the Lake Anna community safer and better prepared.
At its core, Lake Anna Weather has one simple mission: to help people protect themselves and their families from dangerous weather events that inevitably affect everyone at some point.

Hi! I’m Jennifer Bailey and I partner with entrepreneurs who have massive ideas that could change the world. Most marketing is meaningless. Filled with empty promises, its only job is to bring in new traffic, new leads, and new customers. But I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and I’ve learned that marketing can do so much more than reach business goals and build profit. My methods give businesses the fire and soul they need to reach the right people, set the groundwork for sustainable relationships, and offer true value to the people on both the giving and receiving ends of marketing.
