On the weekend of August 9–10, Cutalong at Lake Anna came alive with competition, camaraderie, and a touch of local history during the 3rd Annual Lake Anna Cup. Inspired by the Ryder Cup format, this spirited team event has grown into a tradition among club members—one that now pits Team Miners against Team Blasters. The tournament’s roots trace back to a friendly idea between two longtime Cutalong members, Doug Barmoy and Randy Thomas. Originally envisioned as a rivalry between golf members who resided on the private and public sides of the lake, the format has since evolved into paying homage to our property’s rich mining heritage.
Festivities kicked off Friday evening with a pairings party that set the tone for the weekend. Guests enjoyed delicious food, drinks, and plenty of competitive banter as players and their spouses awaited the first-round matchups. The anticipation built until pairings were revealed.
Saturday morning brought a wave of excitement as players were announced on the first tee and the games began. Throughout the day, laughter and lighthearted trash talk echoed across the fairways. Participants gathered at the 18th hole, cheering on their team and discouraging the competition. Day one ended with Team Blasters holding a narrow lead.
Sunday’s singles matches kicked off early, and the intensity didn’t let up. With each hole, the stakes grew, and the competition remained tight. In the end, it was Team Blasters, captained by Randy Thomas, who clinched victory with a final score of 21–15 over Team Miners.
As the Cutalong community continues to grow and our Clubhouse opens, we can’t wait to host more tournaments and events like the Lake Anna Cup for our members to come and enjoy.

Hi! I’m Jennifer Bailey and I partner with entrepreneurs who have massive ideas that could change the world. Most marketing is meaningless. Filled with empty promises, its only job is to bring in new traffic, new leads, and new customers. But I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and I’ve learned that marketing can do so much more than reach business goals and build profit. My methods give businesses the fire and soul they need to reach the right people, set the groundwork for sustainable relationships, and offer true value to the people on both the giving and receiving ends of marketing.
