Lake Anna, VA – Carlos Wood, the dedicated owner of High Point Marina, has been honored with the third annual award from Jetboats of Lake Anna during the 25th Hot Boat Invasion. This accolade recognizes Wood’s unwavering dedication and service to the vibrant annual gathering of jet boat enthusiasts at Lake Anna.

The event’s highlight was the traditional Friday night seafood boil and potluck, a beloved fixture for the attendees. Carlos Wood, a pivotal figure in the community, not only hosts the potluck but also accommodates numerous jet boat owners at his Lighthouse Inn, ensuring a memorable stay for all participants. This year, Wood joins the esteemed ranks of past winners, including Jack Weller, the event’s originator, and Michael Tomlin from Bethesda, MD.

(NO PARTICULAR ORDER: Callie Zello, Madison Kerr, Aiyana Lahnham, and Hayden Hesten)

The festivities kicked off last night at the Lake Anna Taphouse with a lively meet and greet. Today’s activities included a professional photo shoot by Speedboat Magazine, featuring photographers Carol Barker Wyatt and John Heishman, and an exhilarating run with the Jet Ski Brigade. The group successfully raised $775 for the Boy Scouts, who provided lunch, and is also fundraising for the American Cancer Society in honor of Joyce Jones, the Humane Society, and Lake Anna Rescue.

Jack Weller, who has hosted the Hot Boat Invasion for 25 years on his scenic property in Bumpass, reflected on the event’s growth. Originally started as a gathering for his transmission shop staff in Silver Spring, the event has flourished into a significant annual meeting of jet boat enthusiasts, now with a strong charitable component.

“It’s a great group of people,” Weller remarked, expressing his admiration for the community. Carlos Wood echoed his sentiment, praising the returning guests at the Lighthouse Inn. “It’s a central location, and I enjoy them being here,” Wood added.

The seafood boil, with food donated by Food Lion, was a delightful experience for attendees of all ages. The event also featured a lemonade stand run by four young participants—Callie Zello, Madison Kerr, Aiyana Lahnham, and Hayden Hesten—adding to the family-friendly atmosphere.

Michael Tomlin, the 2023 award recipient, shared his anticipation for the event, especially after overcoming a battle with throat cancer. Tomlin’s story embodies the resilience and camaraderie that define the Hot Boat Invasion.
