Proposed by REB Investment Company LLC and Amazon Data Services, the Lake Anna Tech Campus is set to become a significant addition to Louisa County, Virginia. The project, as detailed in the filing with the US Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District, outlines plans for a data center campus spanning 153 acres.

The campus will be situated on the east line of Kentucky Springs Road (Route 652), East of the intersection of Haley Drive and Kentucky Springs Road, in Louisa County, Virginia.

The campus is designed to accommodate up to seven data center buildings, two ancillary buildings, and an administrative building. The data center buildings are specified as six two-story structures with 256,284 sq. ft. each and 12 ‘pods’ each. Additionally, there will be a single two-story building covering 185,864 sq. ft. with eight pods.

Two on-site substations will be included in the development to support the power needs of the data center facilities. The project is expected to have a permanent impact on just under one acre of wetlands and 3,059 linear feet of stream channel.

This development aligns with a larger trend of major tech companies, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), investing significantly in data center infrastructure. In a related move, the Louisa County Board of Supervisors had previously announced that AWS plans to invest $11 billion by 2040 to establish two data center campuses in Louisa’s Technology Overlay District.

Furthermore, Amazon has filed four applications with Spotsylvania County in Virginia for the establishment of four new data center campuses, indicating a broader expansion of Amazon’s data center presence in the region.

The initiatives reflect the continued growth of the data center industry, driven by increasing demand for cloud services and data storage. These projects also have implications for local economies, job markets, and infrastructure development in the respective regions.

Roundabout Coming this December

In a significant development aimed at enhancing safety and traffic efficiency, J.L. Kent & Sons, INC of Spotsylvania has secured a construction contract valued at $2,876,199.01 with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The contract will see the replacement of the existing intersection of Route 208 (New Bridge Road) and Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) with a state-of-the-art single-lane roundabout.

The intersection getting the roundabout, named Wares Crossroads, has been an area of major concern for Lake Anna residents as traffic continues to increase, especially during the warm months when travelers and short-term visitors flood the Lake Anna area.
