As many of you know, I have been busy finishing, painting and decorating my “Seashell She Shed”. It’s finally ready for a grand opening, just in time to inspire the official ‘Show Us Your She Shed’ Summer challenge! For me, I wanted the backyard escape to remind me of my other happy place, Siesta Key, Florida. Pastel colors and tropical décor are the theme in this beachy oasis, filled with my seashell collection and art supplies, so that I can continue to make projects and art out of seashells, while being surrounded by wonderful memories.

While seashells are the main theme, I have also enjoyed repurposing other treasures given to me by friends to round out the eclectic interior… a wicker love seat got a fresh look, spray painted aqua with cushions that got recovered with our old bedspread. A $5-find at a Florida antique store is the main focal point above the “fireplace” as you enter and coordinates nicely with the ceramic zebra. Blue wooden water skis (circa 1960s) are mounted on the ceiling archways.
Phase two of construction is now the landscaping that will tie into the rest of the yard… a front porch of patio pavers will lead to a firepit and a backyard pavilion, while a small sandy beach area will be roped off for sunbathing.
So here’s the part where I challenge your creativity… what would your She Shed theme be? What inspires you? What would you do with time for yourself or with girlfriends in your She Shed?
A prize pack full of gifts from local businesses will be awarded to the winner. The top She Sheds will be featured in an issue of The Lake Anna Breeze.
There aren’t many rules – simply transform an outdoor space into your interpretation of a She Shed! Or maybe you already have?
Go all out and take pictures and apply online for the contest at: https://lakeanna.online/sheshed. Good luck!
