Established in 2011, My Three Chambered Heart has been dedicated to improving public perception, enhancing captive husbandry, and promoting wildlife conservation of reptiles through educational outreach. The museum’s mission is clear: to spread knowledge and awareness of herpetology through a variety of engaging methods. These include classes, research, exhibits, community outreach, educational presentations, and hands-on experiences with reptiles.

Executive Director Jacob Pugh explains the inspiration behind the museum’s name: “Reptiles have three chambers in their hearts, in contrast to the four chambers of a human heart. Reptiles are more than just an interest of mine; they are a passion. Thus, My Three Chambered Heart was born. Of course, crocodilians are an exception, as they have four chambered hearts like us!”

With a strong focus on making science exciting and accessible, My Three Chambered Heart invites visitors to explore over 60 live species and more than 100 various specimens. The museum offers a unique glimpse into the history and biology of reptiles, featuring remarkable exhibits like the world’s largest and friendliest green iguana, legless lizards, and tortoises that have traveled to space.

The museum is a hub for learning and discovery, open to the public from Thursday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a $15 admission fee. Located at 837 Cross County Road, Mineral, VA 23117, My Three Chambered Heart is a place where the wonder of reptiles comes to life.
