Cutalong Golf Course Bigger and Better

You spoke, and we listened; changes are coming to the Cutalong Golf Club course this year. We have been told that a few of our greens were either too small or too difficult, and we agreed. So, we have changed four of our golf holes this winter and early spring. Hole 1, the opening welcome hole to the Cutalong experience, will be undergoing the most significant change, and those who have played here will all express excitement about the changes. The fairway will be contoured to make the green visible from the tee with a fairway bunker down the right side. The green will be entirely reshaped and moved forward to allow more room if a ball goes over the green. The green will still have the familiar three tiers, but now slightly less severe, and the green will be at more of a 45 degree angle from right to left. The next green, hole four, has been enlarged to create more green surface. This will allow for more pin placements and a larger landing area for incoming shots. Next, we moved to hole eight, another major renovation of the green surface and front bunker. This green will also be enlarged with bigger plateaus to keep putts from rolling off the green and into the hazard that fronts this green. The bunker will now front the entire green with the railroad ties still creating a menacing look from the approach area. The final green renovation is hole 13, where the back of the green has been extended another 20 feet, allowing for more pin locations and for a ball that lands over the large hump in the middle of the green to remain on the green surface. The surrounding area of this green has also been enlarged, and the cart path moved further from the green surface.

The mission of our ownership and management at Cutalong is to provide a championship golf experience with conditions equal to or beyond any course in the country. Limited memberships are still available, and discovery rounds are another way to come and experience this magnificent golf design by Tom Clark, a local resident and world-renowned course architect. The course will open fully by June 1 with all holes open for play, while 16 holes are currently playable.

Jenn Weiland, Head Golf Professional

Jenn comes to Cutalong from Charleston, South Carolina, where she has spent the past five years at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Born and raised in Maine, Jenn grew up as a multi-sport athlete and picked up golf towards the end of high school, quickly discovering why we love this game. She moved south and attended Belmont Abbey College in Charlotte, NC, where she completed four years on the BAC Women’s Golf team while earning her bachelor’s degree in Sports Management. After graduation, Jenn knew she did not miss the long, cold winters in the north, so she moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, where she worked for a Junior Golf Academy. After a few years there, she moved to Charleston and began to pursue her career as a Golf Professional. Jenn enjoys fishing, hiking, and taking her dog Zoe on new adventures in her spare time. Jenn is very excited to join the Cutalong team!
