Inspired by the famous Alexandria Waterskiing Santa tradition that has been captivating audiences for 38 years, Lake Anna’s inaugural celebration was a unique blend of holiday cheer and adrenaline-pumping water sports.

Last Saturday, Lake Anna locals organized their own version of the festive waterskiing event. The idea was met with enthusiasm, and on Saturday, December 23, at 1 pm, 75+ locals witnessed the birth of a new holiday tradition. The event took place on the warm and private side of the lake, specifically on the Millpond Creek side of Millpond Bridge, providing a picturesque backdrop for the festivities.
John Hurley and Bob Capper both played Santa, Amanda and Anna Capper played the Elf and Reindeer on kneeboards, and Zane Smith was on the Jetski.
“It was a great time,” said local resident Kathi Cline, who volunteered with hot chocolate and cookies, and also contributed the photos for Lake Anna Online™. “Thanks to all who came out to support. Looking forward to doing it again next year!”
Bonnie Geris, one of the organizers, expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in the First Annual LKA Santa Ski: “Thank you to everyone that came out to watch the First Annual LKA Santa Ski! An extra big thank you to the Santas, Reindeer, Elf, boat drivers, spotters, and jet ski helper for braving the cold and putting on such a great show for all to see. Estimated turnout of spectators about 75-100! Cuckoos Nest, Mill Run and neighboring friends and families know how to represent! What a wonderful new LKA tradition.”
The origins of the event trace back to 1986 when a group of friends in Alexandria, Virginia, made a bet that would eventually become a cherished Christmas tradition. Drawing straws to determine the unlucky participant, the one who lost had to waterski in freezing waters wearing a Santa suit on Christmas Eve. Over the years, the tradition grew, captivating the community and inspiring others to create their own versions of this festive water spectacle.
A new tradition was born as Lake Anna embraced the holiday season with the Santa Ski event. The success of the inaugural celebration has set the stage for future iterations, promising an annual spectacle that combines the thrill of waterskiing with the joyous spirit of Christmas.

Hi! I’m Jennifer Bailey and I partner with entrepreneurs who have massive ideas that could change the world. Most marketing is meaningless. Filled with empty promises, its only job is to bring in new traffic, new leads, and new customers. But I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and I’ve learned that marketing can do so much more than reach business goals and build profit. My methods give businesses the fire and soul they need to reach the right people, set the groundwork for sustainable relationships, and offer true value to the people on both the giving and receiving ends of marketing.
