Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) has received reports of impostors visiting members’ properties, pretending to be REC representatives. These scammers are asking for property access, falsely claiming that REC will cover solar panel installation costs, and sharing misinformation about a non-REC transmission line. Be vigilant if someone visits your property or contacts you by phone claiming to represent REC.
Key points to remember:
- REC does not fund or install solar panels; we only provide guidance on solar energy for homes and businesses.
- REC staff and contractors use clearly marked vehicles, wear uniforms, and carry proper identification.
- REC may need property access for electric service-related reasons, such as meter inspections or vegetation clearing in the right-of-way.
- Report any suspicious visits or calls to local law enforcement.
- If unsure about the legitimacy of a visitor or caller claiming to be from REC, contact us directly at 1-800-552-3904 to verify. Please share this alert with neighbors, friends, and family to help prevent others from falling victim to this scam.
REC serves over 179,000 connections across 22 counties in Virginia. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, REC maintains over 18,000 miles of power lines throughout its service area, spanning from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. For more information about REC, visit www.myrec.coop. Follow REC on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Hi! I’m Jennifer Bailey and I partner with entrepreneurs who have massive ideas that could change the world. Most marketing is meaningless. Filled with empty promises, its only job is to bring in new traffic, new leads, and new customers. But I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and I’ve learned that marketing can do so much more than reach business goals and build profit. My methods give businesses the fire and soul they need to reach the right people, set the groundwork for sustainable relationships, and offer true value to the people on both the giving and receiving ends of marketing.
