Louisa County Public Schools is expanding its Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings with a new Marine Service Technology program, set to be part of a state-of-the-art 56,000-square-foot CTE Center currently under development. Now in the site preparation phase and scheduled for completion in 2027, the new center will consolidate and grow the district’s hands-on training opportunities in high-demand trades—including a rare focus on marine industry skills.

Bo Bundrick, Director of CTE and Workforce Development for Louisa County Schools, said, “We are committed to keeping CTE an important and viable option for our current and post high school level students.”

Superintendent Doug Straley added, “We are extremely proud of our CTE program and the many hands-on experiences we have provided our students over the years. So our excitement for the new CTE center is based on our ability to take our program to even higher levels. I believe our students deserve the best opportunities available, and the new center will help us provide them.”

Louisa County currently offers over 60 CTE courses at its existing facilities. The new center will expand both capacity and curriculum, adding faculty and facilities to support programs in marine service technology, HVAC/plumbing, electrical/energy, computer-aided design, computer numerical control, firefighting, cosmetology, and nursing.

The center will serve high school students during the day and adult learners in the evenings. Students who successfully complete a course and final exam will receive a certificate of employability in their chosen field.

Funding for the project comes from a combination of district funds, state and federal grants, and industry support. The goal is to offer nearly all subject clusters included in CTE programs across Virginia, helping Louisa County further establish itself as a leader in technical education for smaller districts.
