John Hobbs discovered his love for music at a young age. Growing up in Sacramento, CA, Hobbs was born into a family that appreciated music. With a constant musical presence, it was almost destiny that he would find his rhythm behind the drum kit. Fast forward 56 years, and Hobbs’ beat still resonates – but here at Lake Anna, near his grandchildren.

From humble beginnings tapping along at family gatherings to honing his craft in school bands, Hobbs’ journey with music has been a lifelong affair. He reminisces about crafting his first pair of drumsticks at the age of nine and using his grandfather’s wood lathe to create what they affectionately called “Lincoln Logs” – oversized sticks for marching band performances.

Throughout his musical odyssey, John has been part of several bands, each offering a unique chapter in his story. From The Cacaughinites, exploring the pop sounds of Burt Bacharach, to Fred Morgan’s Big Band, delving into the swinging rhythms of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, John’s versatility as a drummer knows no bounds.

However, it’s not just about the bands; it’s about the camaraderie, the passion, and the shared love for music. For over three decades, John was a cornerstone of the Cool Community Church Worship Team, where his rhythmic precision added depth to the spiritual experience.

Transitioning to the realm of rock ‘n’ roll, Hobbs co-founded Still Rockn and Friends, a vibrant dance and party band that kept the groove alive for seven memorable years. Now, as part of Lake Dawgs, alongside talented musicians like Mark Finnegan, Ed Norko, Rich Prezioso, Rick and Diane Kappler, he continues to bring his signature beat to the stage.

In a recent interview, John opened up about his musical journey, reflecting on what inspires him, the qualities that define a great musician, and his favorite aspects of being part of the music scene. From the thrill of live performances to the satisfaction of tight rehearsals, John’s passion for music shines through every word.

Beyond the drum kit, John finds solace in the great outdoors, indulging in hobbies like bow hunting for deer and bass fishing. Yet, it’s clear that his heart truly beats to the rhythm of the music.

With decades of experience under his belt, Hobbs stands as a testament to the enduring power of music to shape lives and create lasting bonds. As he continues to groove with Lake Dawgs and beyond, his legacy as a drummer and a music enthusiast is sure to resonate for years to come. You can see Hobbs perform with the Lake Dawgs at the Log Home Brewing’s ‘Honoring American Heroes’ all-day event on May 18th.
