Louisa County Issues Reminder to Short-Term Rental Owners Ahead of Summer Season

June 2, 2025

LOUISA, VA — As the peak summer rental season begins, Louisa County Community Development has issued a formal reminder to short-term rental owners and operators about compliance requirements for properties located in designated Growth Area Residential Districts.

The notice reiterates that all short-term rental properties in residential zones R-1 and R-2 within county growth areas must meet specific operational guidelines under County Code Section 86-114. These include providing contact information to the county and homeowners’ associations, notifying renters of restrictions on events and gatherings, and complying with building, safety, and health regulations.

Properties that do not meet the outlined standards will be prohibited from operating as short-term rentals unless a Conditional Use Permit is obtained from the Board of Supervisors.

The updated ordinance went into effect on January 1, 2025, giving owners time to prepare and ensure full compliance.

County officials thanked residents for their cooperation and stressed the importance of responsible property management during the busy rental season.
