[Letter from the Editor] Saying Goodbye

I never got the chance to get to know Mike Mitchell. But I wish I had.

The outpouring from the community has showed us who DJ Mike was – even for those who knew him very little, or not at all.

Some people have such an impact on those around them that life will never be the same after they’re gone. We mourn even if we didn’t personally know them.

There’ve been a few people like this in my life… my uncle is one. There are nine kids between our two families. When we were little, he would take us to the mall just to teach us how to play pranks on people. He always hired Elvis for his parties. I hadn’t seen him in years when he died suddenly. And there were many, many stories at his funeral.

Do you ever wonder what people will say about you after you’re gone? Who will show up at your funeral? Will you make a lasting impact on many, or even just a few? I do. I think about it. I think we probably all do.

As 2025 approaches, I keep hearing it… “The older you get the faster time goes”… and I just want it to slow down. 2025 isn’t allowed to move as quickly as 2024.

While I remind myself to slow down, enjoy each moment I have with my family, enjoy my days even in the busiest… I also want life to be purposeful.

I’m taking the time to let things go, and not hold grudges. To find humor in more and worry about less. To choose joy in more, and labor in less. To give more, listen more, and forgive myself… more.

Isn’t that what love is? Not a state of mind, but an action? A choice? Let’s not let any more time go by without it.
