The Lounge on Lake Anna opened its 1st Annual Karaoke Contest with a standout victory from 19-year-old Veronica Schoenster, a recent Louisa County High School graduate best known for her role as Young Marie in last summer’s local musical, Chick’s Diner.
Schoenster, who captivated local audiences onstage, brought that same theatrical spark to Thursday night’s competition, earning first place in Week One.
Joining her in the finalist lineup is Ian Sage, who claimed second place after an equally commanding performance. Sage is no stranger to the spotlight — he recently won “Clearwater Idol” which was hosted at Clearwater Grill in Locust Grove, adding another accomplishment to his rising musical résumé. His smooth vocals and confident stage presence made him a crowd favorite and a strong contender, winning him a position in the top two spots.
Both singers will be advancing for the February 19, 2026 finale, where they’ll compete for $500 and a trophy.
The debut night of the 10-week contest, hosted by DJs Joey Cutright and Austin Nester of Raise the Roof Entertainment, featured a full slate of local talent, including Noel Laiche, Tony Wong, Kris Wilday, Austin Hoeckelman, Rob McKrarney, Kevin Cave, and Lisa Marie Day.
While the winners ultimately rose to the top, each performer brought their own style and energy to the stage, setting a strong tone for the season.
To cap off the evening, Schoenster and Sage joined forces for an impromptu duet that had the crowd cheering.
DJ Joey Cutright said the first night exceeded expectations. “The talent was incredible, and the room was electric,” Cutright said. “Veronica and Ian really connected with the audience… it’s going to be an exciting season.”
The karaoke contest continues every Thursday through February 5, with two new finalists selected each week. The event is free to enter and open to all singers.
Local residents are invited to stop by, support the singers, and enjoy a winter filled with live entertainment at The Lounge.

Hi! I’m Jennifer Bailey and I partner with entrepreneurs who have massive ideas that could change the world. Most marketing is meaningless. Filled with empty promises, its only job is to bring in new traffic, new leads, and new customers. But I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and I’ve learned that marketing can do so much more than reach business goals and build profit. My methods give businesses the fire and soul they need to reach the right people, set the groundwork for sustainable relationships, and offer true value to the people on both the giving and receiving ends of marketing.
